Summary Sheep in the wake of the Chernobyl accident were exposed to external and internal radiation by "young" products of nuclear decay of uranium and plutonium in the initial period with isotopes of iodine-131-135, later cesium-137 and strontium-90. The damage to animals concerned all structural and functional elements of the animal organism, which was reflected in the change in clinical and hematological indicators, woolen productivity, and reproducible function. The offspring of affected sheep were viable.
Keywords: chronic radiation, sheep, dynamics of changes in thyroid glands.
