Abstract This article examines the influence of temperature gradients in the upper soil layer on the processes of capillary rise of moisture and dissolved salts. The mechanisms of salt solution movement under the influence of temperature fluctuations, as well as their role in the development of soil salinization, are investigated. It is established that temperature fluctuations promote increased moisture evaporation from the soil surface, which leads to increased capillary rise of solutions from the lower horizons. As a result, salts accumulate in the upper soil layer, degrading the physicochemical properties of the soil and reducing its fertility. The findings can be used in developing measures to prevent secondary salinization of lands in arid and semi-arid regions.
